The Penalty Kick
The penalty kick is one of those things in a soccer
match that will bring grown men to their knees with tears if they were to miss one. 12 yards away shooting on a goal with 17.84 Sq. meters of area to score on, this task seems impossible to fail and that is what most people think but actually this is where their wrong.
The DOs and DONTs of a Penalty Kick:
Do's:
Keep your weight over the ball- While taking a penalty, you must keep your weight over the ball to increase your power and keep the ball low to the ground to prevent skying it and to lower the odds of the keeper saving it.
Make a plan and stick to it- While taking a penalty, make a plan and stick to it, the reason most people miss their pen.
Fool the keeper with your eyes- While taking a penalty, fool the keeper with your eyes to attempt to send the keeper to dive the wrong way.
Strike the ball firmly- while taking a penalty, strike the ball firmly because if you hit the ball not throughly the keeper may be able to react in time and save it because the velocity of the ball is too slow.
Dont's:
Take too long of a run-up- dont take to long of a run up because you may second guess yourself and change the direction of the shot.
Let the keeper psyche you out- this one is obvious if you let the keeper psyche you out he is going to be all up in your head and cause you to miss.
Strike the ball to close to the keeper or keeper height- if you strike the ball to the keepers chest that is what is known as keepers height you want to hit the ball as far away from the keepers chest as you can
My question to you is: What is the equivalent to a Penalty Kick in your other activities or sports?
I really don't think that there really is anything that is the equivalent to the PK in any other sport because a PK has such a big impact on the game and scoring in soccer is the hardest thing to do I think of all of the sports that are still played today.
