Complete Guide to Goalkeeping

Part of being a goalkeeper, as i mentioned before is having to be a perfectionist at all times, and trying to make your technique as perfect as humanly possible.  So today i decided to work on the basics catching a soccer ball. Or More specifically the hand placement of catching a soccer ball.

"There are two common ways to catch a soccer ball, The diamond shape and the W- shape. Both have key Pro's and Con's, but i have always taught my players to catch with a Diamond shape". In this quote Tony Diccio talks about how your fingers when catching a ball should look literally like a diamond your pointer fingers and thumbs should be lined up in a way that looks like a diamond.

While for me i always use the Diamond shape when catching a soccer ball that is more of at my head level, i never caught a soccer ball with a diamond shape if it was above my head so i decided to practice. This for me took a lot of re-timing myself, and a lot of practice to fully say i mastered it. But eventually i have been able to build my confidence up enough to use it in a game, and i have every since! Tony was correct using the diamond shape method really increases the security of the ball, and i was i have almost completely stopped Two touching the ball!

The Question I have for you, is has there ever been a time that you may have been doing something right, but you ended up learning a better and more efficient way to do that task?
