The Braided Bun

For my final hairstyle, I decided to attempt I certain type of bun I have never tried. I chose to do the Braided Bun. I did this hairstyle because I know it would soon come in handy for when I had no time to do my hair normally and was rushing out of the house. I was able to complete this with the guidance from my “Hairstyles” book by Kylee Bond. This hairstyle looked a lot harder than it was to complete, but once I actually styled my sisters hair this way, it was easy to do on myself and others immediately after.

For my first step I teased my sister’s hair. This step was optional, but I decided to do it in the crown area because it adds extra texture to the hairstyle so it doesn’t look too slicked back and neat (Bond 123). This tip not only helped with this specific hairstyle, but all of the hairstyles that I do. This is because any hairstyle that calls for pulling hair back, I can use this technique to make the style look better from the front angle of their head.

To continue the Braid Bun, I put my sister’s hair in a medium height pony tail then divided that into two sections. I then braided those two sections, following the book steps closely. To complete this look I had to, “Twist one braid around the front part of the ponytail, over the clear elastic band, and secure it with hairpins. Twist the second braid around the back of the ponytail to complete the bun, and secure it with hairpins” (Bond 124). With the help of this text evidence I was able to successfully finish off this hairstyle.

Afterwards I tucked in additional hairs that were poking out. I learned this technique as I was reading another page in this book. All of the tips I have learned from this book I begin to use every day in my life whenever I do my hair or other peoples hair. It has impacted my skills a lot!

My sister really enjoyed this look, and since then has asked me to do this look on her at other times. I think this turned out pretty great for my first attempt at it, but I will continue to practice this style and get faster and better at it.

When you don’t have time to do anything special with your hair, do you prefer putting it up in a bun or a ponytail, and why?
