One Minute Pop-Up Card

A couple of days ago, I got an email about some volunteer opportunities. One of them was about making cards for the ALS  people at ALS Association Evergreen Chapter. My friend and I decided to do this because we were interested in DIY products. When we'd arrived, they gave us some materials to make the cards. I suggested to the worker there to make an owl card that I saw in the book last time. And now I'm showing you how to make an cute and easy owl card. Let's get started!

These are the materials:

• papers (brown, which is the template, yellow, white, black, and orange)
• scissors
• big and small circle punchers
• hole puncher
• glue stick

Draw a shape like the one below pictured on the left. Cut out the shape along the lines. It will look something like this  (top left pic). Fold the shape in half so it forms a card. Then punch out the big and small circles from the yellow paper and the white paper for the eyeballs (2 pictures on the right). Also, use the hole puncher to punch little circles on the black paper for the irides (bottom left). The last thing you need to prepare is the beak; cut out little triangles from the orange paper.

After you're done preparing all the pieces of materials, you glue the bigger circles onto the template, which is the face of the owl. Be aware that when gluing the second circle onto the big circle, they have to overlap. Next, glue the smaller circles onto the bigger circles. Make sure to glue them close to each other near the bottom center of the bigger circles. Then, glue the two tiny, black circles onto the white circles. The last step is to glue the beak in between and below the eyes (Trish Phillips & Ann Montanaro).

An easy way to turn this into a pop-up card is to add another paper on the back. Fold an A4 paper in half, hamburger style. Keep the paper folded and make two cuts on the folded line, about an inch long and two inches apart. Make sure while you cut it, the paper is folded. Then, push the part you just cut
so it creates a block (see below, left and middle photos). The last step is to glue the card onto the block that stands out, and there you go, an easy pop-up card is completed.

To make the card more creative and fun, we decided to staple the card onto a bag filled with chocolate for Valentine's Day.

Overall, this is the easiest pop-up card that I've ever made. It took only about one minute to make one card once the materials are prepared. You should totally try it out if you're interested in DIY or even beginners. Hope you guys have fun making these cards!
