Putting It All Together

When I say I play the guitar, I really mean that I own one and I know about 5 chords. As a singer-songwriter, if you are working alone, it’s best to know how to play the instrument that you will mainly use in your songs. “Learn as many chords as you can on the instrument of your choice” (Peterik 4111). Since my main source of an instrument is my guitar, I decided that that is what I was going to use. I also had a guitar book that came with the guitar that I finally decided to put to use.

It was really fun getting back into playing my guitar. It made me feel that every song I wrote was complete. But before that even happened, I decided that I needed to tune my guitar, except for I didn’t have a physical tuner. “…now you can download applications for your phone to help you tune your instruments on the go” (Peterik 4293). I decided to get this app called Guitar Tuna, which allows me to tune my guitar in seconds! It also has pictures of different chords that I can learn.

After this, I applied my knowledge and decided to try some chord progression that matched one of my songs and it came out as expected, which was good for a first attempt.

“…having a working knowledge of a chordal instrument like keyboard or guitar can help you find the proper chords for your song” (Peterik 3989). This really helped because it made think about and apply how to make my song better.
